Light Edge unveils bold expansion plans

Johannesburg, 03 May 2004

An impressive track record of sustained business growth has contributed to Light Edge Technology`s decision to further entrench its presence in SA, as well as commence expansion into Africa, in 2004.

To this end, Light Edge opened its first store in Windhoek, Namibia on 5 April and premises have been secured for the launch of the company`s Nelspruit branch in June. A Bloemfontein branch is scheduled to follow towards the end of the year.

According to Light Edge managing director, Grant Poulton, the company`s presence in Windhoek will address rising demand from dealers in that region, as well as serve as a launch pad for business development in Africa.

He says: "The Windhoek IT distribution market is worth over R72 million per annum. The business plan supporting our Windhoek operation will see the new store become self-sustaining from June and profitable from August. But more importantly, the Windhoek store will act as a stepping-stone for business dealings into Africa. It is specifically a portion of the Angolan IT market which we`re looking to capture from Windhoek, as Angolan-based dealers find it easier to procure from Windhoek than any other neighbouring country."

The launch of Light Edge Technology in Nelspruit and, thereafter, Bloemfontein will bring the company`s number of local branches to six. Poulton says: "In SA, Light Edge has achieved an average of 25% year-on-year turnover growth in the past three years. This growth has translated into rising dealer demand for regional support and faster access to our range. Their requirements have, in turn, driven our decision to expand and which locations to target."
