Linux IT signs exclusive distribution agreement with Zen Computing

Johannesburg, 03 Aug 2000

LinuxIT UK announced today that it had signed an exclusive European agreement with Zen Computing for InSite 2.0, a dynamic Content Management System, based on XML and XSL.

The system uses the World Wide Web Consortium`s XML standard to separate the content from the presentation of information on the web, thus making the operation and maintenance of dynamic content on a website effortless.

Peter Dawes, Sales Director of LinuxIT, commented: "InSite provides unparalleled dynamic management of websites, when linked to the Informix database. It provides a scaleable solution for easily creating dynamic websites and managing the contents."

"The XML and XSL standards are explicitly designed so that the information in a website and the manner in which it is displayed are completely separate", explains Tsoloane Moahloli, Chief Architect of the system, "XSL deals exclusively with the presentation of the information, including fonts, colours and layout, while XML is used to transmit and store the information."

Zen Computing has taken this separation one step further by producing the XML information directly from a database. The contents of the database are administered through a simple browser-based interface. This means that content management can be moved away from webmasters and other technical people to the marketing and sales staff, with little or no training requirement.

"The owners of the information can now be responsible for the relevance of the information on their segment of the company website, while the administrators can apply a common look and feel across all the segments" says Nithia Govender, a director of Zen Computing. The administration interface will ensure that only authorised persons are allowed to change information on the website, as well as limiting them to those segments which they are responsible for.

InSite 2.0 is a Java product and is thus compatible with Microsoft NT, Solaris and Linux platforms.
