Novell`s Better Desktop Project (BDP) has launched a Web site for sharing usability data with Linux developers.
The site gives Linux developers around the world access to video recordings of usability tests carried out on different parts of the KDE and Gnome desktops.
According to the Web site, over 200 videos are already available that provide behavioural, qualitative and quantitative data on applications such as Mozilla Firefox, Evolution, Open Office, Banshee and F-Spot.
This form of usability testing is done to find out which parts of a given design work well for the target audience, to compare the effectiveness of various designs, and to verify that usability goals have been met, says the BDP.
Other resources on the site include information on running a test, picking test subjects, creating prototypes, and writing tasks as well as research reports with commentary and statistics.
