When a group of people from the lithographic industry viewed the Oc'e VarioPrint 6250 in action, they all agreed that the machine could add value to a lithographic operation.
The fastest cutsheet black-and-white duplex printer on earth, the VP6250 prints an unprecedented 250 A4 images per minute at a cost of 2.5c per image.
The ability to add colour inserts to the print run through a cold path paper path to the output stage of the system is of particular interest to the lithographic industry.
As Chris Mason, the Director of Training for the Cross Media Training Centre, points out: "One can print the colour inserts on a lithographic machine and insert them into the print run on this machine and the end-user won`t be able to tell that they were printed on two separate machines."
The VP6250s ability to print full bleeds also makes it attractive to the lithographic industry. "Combined with the printing speed, near perfect registration and no make-ready time, this system will definitely find its place in the lithographic market," adds Mason.
The MD of the Cross Media Training Centre, Nick Delport, says: "We are seeing a blurring of pre and post-press functionality. Will the printroom of the future employ a machine operator or a computer operator? Who will be the digital minder? In this instance it could be anyone as the touch-screen user interface is extremely user-friendly."
The product manager for Oc'e South Africa`s Digital Document Systems, Stephen Bell, says: "Although this printer is extremely fast, we are the first to concede that speed is not everything. One also needs reliability, ease of use, throughput and quality, all of which the VP6250 guarantees."
With near 100% registration front and back, four hours of uninterrupted printing and a massive eight million prints per month, the VP6250 is designed to guarantee trouble-free printing at record-breaking speed.
