Local audience to learn more about ECM from international market leaders

Johannesburg, 04 May 2005

The Hummingbird Summit South Africa, to be hosted on Thursday, 5 May, by IA Systems at The Forum in Bryanston, will demonstrate, promote and educate corporate executives, business and technical managers on the latest trends and solutions in enterprise content management (ECM).

IA Systems, a leading provider of content management solutions in SA, was selected by Hummingbird Inc as its exclusive South African and surrounding regions distributor in November 2004.

Says Daniel Hall, CEO of IA Systems: "Many organisations struggling with increasing volumes of correspondence are taking an ECM approach to correspondence management by establishing a securely managed, indexed repository of all information.

"The summit, which forms part of an international Hummingbird conference programme, is a prime opportunity to meet and interact with Hummingbird executives and staff, discuss business challenges, and share ideas on effective strategies for creating rapid return on investment," Hall explains.

Over 33 000 customers worldwide, including 90% of Fortune 100 companies, rely on Hummingbird technology to access, manage, analyse and collaborate around structured and unstructured business content.

Mike van der Kamp, senior director, Hummingbird, will present the keynote address at 9am, which will contrast ECM with customer relationship management (CRM) and show how ECM overcomes the value gap, and can deliver the requirements of all corporate stakeholders, within the time frames they set. Compliance with legal requirements, he says, is the value proposition that unites all stakeholders.

"Compliance is the best excuse to do what we all know can improve our organisations," Van der Kamp says.

The keynote address will be followed by a product overview presented by Gareth Metyard, products director, Hummingbird. Metyard will take the audience on a trip through the new features and functionality within the latest version of Hummingbird Enterprise, and show how Hummingbird is taking enterprise content management to the next level.

After a tea break, two streams - legal/compliance and business - will run concurrently until the conference closes at 5pm.

The business stream will cover issues such as complying with legal requirements for document retention, and includes a case study on the Department of Science and Technology. Peter Pedlar, Deputy Director General, will discuss the business imperatives of selecting a content management system, the success and failures of implementation methodologies, and how the department will use Hummingbird for future strategies.

The product stream will focus on collaboration, moving from document management to ECM, e-mail management solutions and integrating Hummingbird into a GIS/map-based solution.

"We are looking forward to the chance to explain in greater detail what a difference ECM can make to corporate budgets and productivity," Hall concludes.
