Buang Day Care Centre is situated in the heart of Soweto and has been operating since 2007, serving the community through the day care facilities it offers to working parents in the area. Call centre and communications expert, Inter-Active Technologies, has been working hand-in-hand with Buang for the past three years to build the day care into what it is today, with various donations - including monthly contributions.
“When I began in 2007, this yard was just an empty lot that was not being used for anything,” says Buang Day Care founder Moipone Phetlhe, as she explains the humble beginnings of the cr`eche. “Initially we had just seven children and we have grown to 125 today.”
Inter-Active Technologies has been instrumental in the growth of the day care since the very beginning, and Inter-Active Technologies Travel and Marketing Co-ordinator, Jeanne Burger, was on hand to deliver a donation of educational toys for the children. “We came to know about Buang Day Care through one of our employees whose son attends the cr`eche. Since then, we have given significant monthly monetary contributions, as well as other ad hoc donations,” says Burger.
“Inter-Active Technologies has assisted us in improving the children's education by supplying books and stationery, as well as recreational tools such as toys, games and jungle gyms. The monthly donations have gone into expanding the day care buildings, as well as maintaining the garden and vegetable patch,” adds Phetlhe.
The future looks bright for Buang Day Care as the number of children under its care grows, and more teachers join its family. The relationship between Buang Day Care and Inter-Active Technologies is also set to grow as Phetlhe looks to expand the area to accommodate more young learners.
“Most of what you see here today is thanks to Inter-Active Technologies, and I've been told to inform Jeanne of our future plans so that they can see where else they can assist us. With Inter-Active Technologies' help, we are looking forward to a great 2009,” concludes Phetlhe.
