Johannesburg, 06 Sep 1999

Local distributor, Computer Workstation Sales (CWS) (Pty) Limited, has been selected as the new Silicon Graphics International (SGI) distributor following a competitive selection process to find the best-qualified local company to take up the contract.

CWS, based in Randburg, is taking on responsibility for sales, marketing and service of selected SGI products in sub-Saharan Africa.

The appointment in South Africa follow consultation with staff right across the region, which have resulted in SGI`s overall Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) operations being streamlined into four geographic areas. One hundred of Europe`s best graduates are also being recruited across the region this year to help keep SGI`s corporate on track.

"The exhaustive search process that we`ve carried out will ensure that SGI`s South African customers will get even better access to the technical computing industry`s optimum business solutions" says Roger Cooper, Vice-President of SGI, Europe, Middle East & Africa. "Standards of customer service and support will be maintained at their current high level, with the added benefit of local value-added and knowledge provided by CWS. We`re confident that the new arrangements will make SGI`s products even more successful in South Africa."

"CWS recognises the strength of the SGI product line and the depth of the solutions that the company can provide to customers in many market sectors. It is for this reason that CWS has decided to specify SGI as our preferred supplier for the Visual Simulation and Entertainment application marketplaces," says Shaun Fulbeck.

"Combining our knowledge of the South African IT market with SGI`s computing expertise and heritage creates a very powerful business resource for companies in our country" continued Fulbeck. "Now our customers will be able to leverage world-class solutions from SGI and CWS that will enable them to compete even more effectively on a global basis."
