Cape Town-based software company Viewnetic has formed an alliance with US-headquartered post-relational database vendor InterSystems to bundle its home-grown visual Web development environment with the InterSystems CACH'E database.
Viewnetic`s product, WAB/CSP, is an integrated rapid application development (RAD) tool designed to speed up development on the Web. The technology, which natively integrates into InterSystems` CACH'E database, allows developers rapidly to build real-world data-driven business applications on the Web that look and feel like traditional Windows applications.
CACH'E is used by thousands of companies worldwide, has more than 4 million users and underpins the majority of the world`s healthcare systems. CACH'E Server Pages (CSP), on top of which Viewnetic`s RAD tool has been developed, is the architecture developed by InterSystems to enable developers to build Web applications.
"CACH'E is the only database on the market that can accommodate objects and relational data simultaneously," says Sean Brand, business development director at Viewnetic. "WAB/CSP complements CACH'E by providing an intuitive, user-friendly environment for novice and experienced developers to produce rich, world-class applications for any industry, from anywhere in the world, across all supported CSP platforms."
An application built using WAB/CSP can be easily integrated with a CACH'E database. Through extensive use of XML, WAB/CSP allows the developer to produce applications that access data across namespaces, as well as from disparate databases via ODBC and Web services.

The paradigm of stateless computing presents a profound new way to work, and the market is as yet untapped. There are thousands of potential users in the development community.
