Local IT specialist briefs UK firms on systems migration

Johannesburg, 26 Jan 2006

MigrationWare, the progressive South African IT firm that assists companies to convert their legacy applications to improve efficiency and achieve cost savings, put systems migration at the top of the agenda this week at two of the UK`s most famous landmarks.

Joao de Oliveira, director of MigrationWare, spoke on the role of migration specialists to systems integrators and UK corporates at Micro Focus` seminars being held at the Tower of London and Edinburgh Castle.

The expanding IT company is a Micro Focus partner and provides solutions to enable the migration, conversion or extension of mainframe legacy applications. Micro Focus is a leading provider of legacy development and deployment software for enterprise platforms.

De Oliveira said that his firm was expanding its client base internationally and now has a presence in both the UK and the Netherlands.

"Most established corporates and government departments have invested hugely in legacy mainframe systems over the past decades and our job is to unlock the enormous value that still exists in these company assets."

A major customer which has derived the benefits of MigrationWare`s technology is Daimler Chrysler South Africa. Micro Focus coupled its "Lift and Shift" approach and technology with MigrationWare`s ADASQL add-on to move Daimler Chrysler`s production systems to Unix. The low risk migration saved Daimler Chrysler SA in excess of 50% on operating costs.

In the UK, St Helens Council in Merseyside moved critical financial accounts payable and general ledger applications to Windows. The move off the mainframe last year gave the local government authority benefits of an immediate lb300 000 reduction in annual hardware and software costs.

UK-based British Club Associates (BCA), Britain`s largest direct marketing enterprise, have also benefited from MigrationWare`s assistance. MigrationWare, using its specialist ICL/Fujitsu migration products and Micro Focus technology, "lifted and shifted" BCA`s ICL Mainframe applications to the Windows platform. BCA`s system performance benefits have included run-times being reduced from 20 to 40 minutes to a mere 20 seconds. BCA is forecasting a 50% saving of lb200 000 in annual costs.
