Businesses are fast discovering that locally developed solutions are far better suited to the South African environment than multinational solutions, according to Guy Jelley, CEO of Post Vision Technology.
He says this is due to solutions being more affordable and offering greater functionality, as well as companies rendering better services.
“One of the greatest challenges for local developers is funding, but with bigger companies starting to back South African solutions, this perception is slowly starting to disappear,” states Jelley.
He is adamant that the post implementation service, including reaction times to solving problems and providing support and feedback, is much better and quicker for locally developed software, along with higher quality training. “Local products can be adapted to local requirements quickly and clients can even have an impact on the development and improvement of these products,” he adds.
Jelley believes multinational project management products and services are not always priced appropriately, and are commonly poorly implemented. He adds they lack strong focus from a software perspective, and have never been enhanced for the local market specifically; such as taking SA's bandwidth issues into account.
“Specifically, from a software development point of view, South African technologies are certainly on a par with international offerings because local products and technologies have to adhere to exactly the same standards as their international competitors.
“Competing against the best of the best actually raises the standard of local products and services, resulting in a high level of excellence to the benefit of the South African market,” Jelley concludes.
