Logical looks to authentication market by becoming an RSA Security SSP

Johannesburg, 13 Jan 2000

Logical`s division, has become an RSA Security Secure Solution Provider (SSP) in a move which will see the company take advantage of the expected increase in demand for security technology once Y2K fades. The agreement covers RSA Security`s entire product set.

Director of Security at Logical, Philip Green, says: "RSA Security is a leading product set in the authentication systems area of the security market and we are pleased to be associated with the company.

"We believe its technology provides a perfect complement to our existing technology relationships, especially that of Check Point."

Logical has been a Check Point Premier Partner, distributor and Authorised Training Centre for two years and has established itself comprehensively in the South African market place as a leading security provider.

Green, who was a founding member of DataSecure which is now integrated into the Logical brand, believes that RSA Security`s smartcard technology has enormous potential in South Africa in enabling e-business.

"Also, although its two-factor authentication technology PKI technology which isrelatively unknown by the local market, this is purely because of a lack of .

"Our role will be to rectify this in the corporate sector," says Green, who is responsible for defining technology direction and formulating strategy for Logical`s security services.

Michael Watts, RSA Security product manager at distributor Workgroup, says that the first level of security is provided by a firewall, but this is moving to user authentication, to support e-business initiatives.

"With Logical being a leader in the security arena ad their knowledge of the technology, they are a very strategic partner. Adding two-factor authentication to complement security technologies used such as Firewalls, is of obvious benefit to our joint customers."

Watts adds that one of the criteria of becoming an SSP is that they have to have certified staff so they can offer the best possible installation and support services to customers. Logical already has sent a number of its engineers in its team and will certify more staff in the coming months. Logical offers technologically advanced, cost effective security solutions to the Southern African corporate market, and has a team which focuses on areas including network security and firewalling, encryption and VPNing, authentication solutions and infrastructures to support e-business.
