Logitech has introduced a new mouse series, designed for high performance applications. The MX Performance Mouse Series is powered by the MX Optical Engine, which gathers 4.7 megapixels of information per second and is said to provide enhanced tracking of even the fastest hand movements.
According to Logitech, the new series of mice are engineered for maximum acceleration. "At 10G of acceleration, the processing power of the optical sensor exceeds the human limits of motion ensuring that the cursor will respond in even the most challenging environments," says Garreth Hayes, a Logitech marketing executive.
"All mice in this new performance series features specialised navigation options that make them even more efficient tools for Web applications," he adds.
The MX Performance Mouse Series consists of:
MX700: The most powerful and most stylish cordless optical mouse available. To ensure that the user gets the most out of the huge amounts of data captured by the MX Optical Engine, Logitech has developed Fast RF. This sends data to the receiver over twice as fast, and over twice as often, as conventional cordless mice.
The result is responsiveness equal to that of a USB-connected mouse. It is like providing a high-performance car with its own private motorway, ensuring that the high power of the MX Optical Engine can be fully exploited.
The MX700 has a new contoured design, with a soft-touch black finish and highly polished silver accents. The receiver for the MX700 also serves as a charging station. The rechargeable nickel metal-hydride (NiMH) batteries will be charged for a whole day`s worth of use in just 10 minutes. A full charge will deliver up to 10 days` worth of use.
MX 500: This is an advanced mouse with similar next-generation engineering as the cordless MX700, but with a USB or PS/2 cable connection. Like the MX700, the MX500 includes an Internet forward and back button within easy reach of the thumb.
A Quick Switch Program selector button is conveniently located on top of the mouse to easily jump between open applications on the users` desktop. Logitech`s proprietary Cruise Control scrolling system provides rapid scrolling through large Web pages and long documents by just holding the buttons above and below the scroll wheel.
The scroll wheel can then be used for line-by-line accuracy. Like the MX700, all eight buttons are fully programmable.
MX 300: This is an ambidextrous product that fits comfortably in either the left or right hand. The navigation tools for this mouse include a Quick Switch Program selector button and scroll wheel.
MX Optical Engine
The MX optical sensor is by far the most powerful optical sensor available today. Logitech uses Agilent`s pioneering optical position sensor technology in all of its optical mouse products. For the MX series, Logitech worked with Agilent to develop an even more highly evolved optical engine.
Optical Mice operate by taking a picture of the surface on which they are operating, and comparing images sequentially to detect the speed and direction of even the slightest movement. The MX Optical Engine captures 4.7 megapixels worth of information every second and uses sophisticated new data analysis to ensure a fluid movement of the mouse under all conditions.
Fast RF
All of Logitech`s cordless peripherals for the desktop are based on proven proprietary digital radio technology, which ensures reliable performance within a two-meter radius of the receiver with no line-of-sight requirement. New to the MX700 is Fast RF, which is designed to provide corded performance without a cord, delivering 125 reports per second - the same as that of USB 1.0.
There are a number of factors to consider when comparing cordless technologies.
a. Number of times that the mouse reports its position. The more frequent the reports the more precise and fluid the movement of the mouse.
b. Speed of the data transmission. Matching the advancements in report rate, the bit rate for Fast RF was advanced 2.5 times over previous RF designs.
c. Compressed delay. With Fast RF, Logitech has slashed delay time to less than half that required by other leading mice. Doing so ensures that the mouse`s 125 reports per second are evenly spaced and sent as a series of discrete, yet smooth, continuous signals.
This combination of reports per second, improved data transmission rate, and compacted delay make for a more responsive and precise cordless mouse that performs exceptionally in even the most challenging environments.
The Logitech MX Performance Series of mice are compatible with Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition and Windows XP as well as Macintosh OS X.
