Long awaited new QuickBooks V8 gives Soho users more power

Johannesburg, , 06 Jul 2000

Brilliant Business Systems has launched Version 8 of its popular small business accounting program, QuickBooks Pro, with a "company centre" facility that makes all of the most critical business information available to the user in one easy-to-read, easy-to-customise place.

"Small business owners know which elements of their business are the most critical for them to monitor. The company centre feature allows them to go directly to those critical elements and quickly conduct further analysis from which they can make timeous, well-informed decisions that will keep the business on track," says Brilliant sales and marketing director Pete Whalley

An adjacent feature of a similar nature is the " centre" which contains telephone numbers, up-to-the-minute sales and other transactions as well as outstanding balances - all accessible on one easy-to-understand, well-organised page. The "QuickZoom" drill down facility allows users to quickly find specific invoices, payment records and other transaction information.

There is also a "customer and vendor detail centre" where users can quickly and easily find all details relating to a single customer or vendor.

"The new V8 has a number of connectivity features that will ensure that QuickBooks Pro maintains its status as the world`s largest selling Windows-based accounting software program," says Whalley.

QuickBooks Pro V8 enables users to automatically email invoices and purchase orders directly from the program with full formatting and logos in Adobe Acrobat reader format. There is also a new mailing label sorting and filtering feature that allows businesses to target mailings to customers by postcode and take advantage of bulk mailing rates.

An integrated currency calculator function is applied to every amount field, a feature that saves time and ensures accuracy by allowing users to enter the amount in any foreign currency and convert it back to the home currency for recording in QuickBooks Pro V8. Invoices can also be printed with VAT and gross total amounts in any foreign currency as well as the home currency.

In response to user requests, Quickbooks Pro V8 includes a new feature that enables users to create letters in Microsoft Word with customer from within the program, allowing better management of correspondence. Repetitive correspondence, including collection letters, thank you letters and marketing letters is made easy with the Letters feature which offers such letters in a pre-written format. Report data from QuickBooks Pro can now also be automatically sent to Excel to easily create customised reports without having to re-enter data. These features require Microsoft Word 97 and Excel 97 or later versions.

Contact information between QuickBooks Pro V8 and ACT! Or Outlook can be synchronised. Every time the user adds to or changes customer information in either program, the new one-click synchronisation feature automatically updates the changes, saving time and improving accuracy.

There are also more than 20 enhancements made from customer suggestions, including "smart" page breaks on reports, automatic linking of refund cheques to credit memorandums, customised sales forms including customer or vendor account number, tracking of customer jobs on purchase orders and a host of others.

Whalley adds that he expects strong user demand for upgrades. Brilliant is offering free telephone support for one year to all V8 users as well as a half-day familiarisation course (R495) on V8`s new features.
