`Look, don`t touch` IP video from Axis

Johannesburg, 19 May 2006

IP video surveillance is about keeping an eye (and maybe an ear) on what`s happening, simply and cost-effectively. More and more often, though, it`s also about resisting tampering as people become more aware of camera surveillance. The Axis 216FD Fixed Dome camera meets these challenges beautifully.

Roy Alves, Managing Director of SCS Distribution, exclusive distributor of Axis products, says: "The 216FD is a professional unit designed for indoor use where a robust, tamper-resistant Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera is needed at an affordable price. Its low-light performance, two-way audio and Power over Ethernet (PoE) support, coupled with Axis` renowned high video quality make it incredibly versatile and perfect for stores, schools, banks and office buildings generally."

The PTZ camera can pan around a full 360 degrees to provide coverage over a wide area with the ability to home in on areas of interest, and can be set to do programmed patrols with up to 20 patrol points. For security, the Axis 216FD has a dome glass fixed from the inside on a wall- or ceiling-mounted casing using tamper-proof screws. Built-in motion and audio detection alarms allow for real-time communication with visitors - or intruders. Progressive scan with simultaneous MPEG and Motion JPEG at 30 frames per second in VGA (640 x 480) make for high quality images, even in poor light, while optimising bandwidth usage.

PoE greatly simplifies installation by using one cable for both the network connection and power. Distributing power over the network also makes it much easier to improve robustness by running the cameras off an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) which can be the same one that provides back-up power for the network equipment.
