Logitech, a leading provider of cordless peripherals for PCs, has announced a new ambidextrous cordless optical mouse. The new mouse follows on the heels of the company`s award winning Cordless MouseMan Optical.
"The benefits of having no ball to clean and no cord to tangle are easily understood," says Shawn Bezuidenhout, sales manager, Logitech South Africa.
"Combining the two benefits in a single product has already been extremely well received. We believe that having a second option in this area meets a clear need."
The new mouse is equipped with an optical sensor that provides 800 dots-per-inch resolution - the same resolution as Logitech`s Cordless MouseMan Optical. This high resolution allows users to move the cursor across the screen in one wrist movement.
Optical mouses with a lower resolution require users to move their whole arm, or to `skate` the mouse across the desk - a less convenient and potentially less comfortable approach, according to Bezuidenhout.
He says this product has the same enhanced power-saving features as Cordless MouseMan Optical, already in use by over half a million users worldwide. These include:
* a. 4 operating modes, to maximise battery life while also preserving responsiveness.
* b. Smart illumination, where the optical sensor uses more light when the mouse is moved on darker surfaces, and less light when the mouse is moved on a light surface.
* c. Smart surface detection, where the mouse goes into sleep mode when it is lifted.
This latest addition to Logitech`s mouse family features a three-button design that is comfortable for both right and left-handed users, with a scroll wheel that functions as the third button. It is painted in an attractive silver metallic finish with a translucent blue cover.
All of the buttons are completely programmable. In addition, with iTouch WebWheel feature, included with all Logitech mouses, users can instantly access the Web at the touch of a button, without closing open applications.
All of Logitech products are also compatible with the Windows XP operating system. The XP compatible drivers are available for download from the Logitech web site.
