Lotus Development has announced the availability of its next-generation collaborative Web application server.
The Lotus Domino Application Server Release 5 (R5) brings together broad enterprise connectivity with advanced services such as workflow and business-focused collaboration, supported by a productive and standards-based development environment.
"With Domino, organisations can build e-business applications that expand relationships among people within and between companies to create sustainable competitive advantage," says Steve Dunbar, marketing manager for Lotus SA.
"With its ability to connect people-oriented business processes to existing enterprise data, Domino Application Server R5 provides a platform for hosting collaborative, Web-based business applications - for customer relationship management, interactive self-service, supply chain management and value-chain integration," he says.
With Release 5, the Domino Application Server will offer broad connectivity to enterprise data, including support for ERP applications, RDBMS and transaction processing systems.
Additional features include: a visual, Web-oriented development environment tightly integrated with a robust set of collaboration services; enhanced support for popular Web platforms, including Microsoft IIS; enhanced Java support; and extended server clustering and fail-over support.
"These new capabilities build on Domino"s infrastructure services, which include workflow, messaging, full-text search, security, object store, directory and content management, to provide the most advanced platform for collaborative Web applications and take Web applications to a new level, by allowing Lotus customers and Business Partners to build people-oriented processes around their enterprise data systems," he says.
The Domino R5 application product family, which includes Domino Designer R5 and the Domino Application Server R5, is expected to become generally available in February.
