Lotus Development and Into Networks have announced a co-operative relationship for content distribution creating on-demand access of Lotus SmartSuite applications over the Internet.
This relationship marks the first time applications from an established office software suite will be made available over the Internet with the same robust functionality and zero-latency performance that is available from packaged software.
"With this agreement, Into Networks and Lotus are debuting an entirely new approach to obtaining and using business software," says Lesego Tlhabanelo, marketing communications manager at Lotus Development SA.
"Instead of purchasing, installing and maintaining an office suite, consumers and small businesses alike can rent or subscribe to SmartSuite applications on-demand through their broadband connections," says Vincent Grosso, the CEO of Into Networks.
Lotus` software will be available as part of Into Networks` Home Office category, a group of personal productivity titles available at the PlayNow.com Web site. When a customer selects a title, it is instantly launched over their broadband connection and runs on their desktop - without time-consuming downloads or the hassles of installing the title.
Users can try titles for free before they purchase, rent the title for a few days, or subscribe to channels of content on a monthly basis. At the end of the rental period, there`s no need to return or uninstall the software, since the titles have been playing in real-time from the Into Networks` server. From a content provider`s perspective, the platform`s ability to deliver content without a full-title download ensures that the content is kept completely secure from piracy.
Lotus SmartSuite 9.5 millennium edition personal productivity application includes Lotus 1-2-3, Lotus Organizer, Lotus WordPro, Lotus Freelance Graphics, Lotus SmartCenter, Lotus ScreenCam, Lotus FastSite, and Lotus Approach software. These applications, combined with integrated speech recognition, collaborative Internet functionality that uses Lotus Notes Release 5 and Lotus Domino, updated file compatibility, and time-saving deployment technology, offer the end-user a complete suite for individual and enterprise users.
