The local office of Lotus Development has announced the availability of Lotus Domino Release 5 for the IBM S/390, with support enhancements and a new pricing structure. "Lotus Domino R5 for S/390 offers customers scalability, availability, security and the largest NotesBench audit to date at 32,000 concurrent users on a single server." says Steve Dunbar, marketing manager at Lotus Development SA.
"Coupled with new data integration features, Domino R5 for S/390 enables S/390 customers to extend business critical applications with Domino," he says. Lotus is also delivering improved service and support for Domino R5 for S/390 and a new monthly license charge (MLC) that will determine pricing based upon the server`s capacity.
"By providing an increase in performance and scalability, as well as improving support offerings, we are enhancing investments that existing customers have made in IBM and Lotus technology," adds Dunbar.
Compared with Domino Release 4 for S/390, Domino Release 5 for IBM S/390 now supports up to three times the number of users on a single instance of Domino. It allows systems administrators to separate e-mail users from application users on a single partition, thus enhancing performance and reducing administration costs.
Additional enhancements include the introduction of System Management Facility (SMF) recording, enhanced trace capability, support for IEEE floating point and security support for digital certificates, ensuring sender authenticity. With enhanced Auto Restart Capabilities, users will benefit from a seamless connection to Domino and avoid unnecessary interruptions.
IBM recently completed a NotesBench audit for Domino Release 5 for the G5 server at 32,000 concurrent mail users, exceeding 42,500 transactions per minute, with an average response time of 0.109 seconds. This performance was achieved using only 80 percent of the G5`s capacity.
Support for Domino R5 for S/390 will include local language support, unlimited defect support calls, no named caller restrictions and 24 X 7 voice support. In keeping with other IBM S/390 Support Offerings, Lotus is creating a dedicated Domino for S/390 support team. Customers will call IBM Support to request assistance and will have the ability to review their problem status in IBM`s problem management system, RETAIN. Customers will also have the option to purchase IBM SupportLine offerings beginning Q4 1999.
Lotus will waive the monthly license charge (MLC) for customers evaluating the software in pilot mode for up to six months. The waiver will apply to customers installing Domino R5 for S/390 during the promotion period, which ends January 14, 2000. It will extend from installation until either the end of the six-month evaluation period or when the product is put into production.
