3Com Corporation today announced multi-year marketing agreements with Lucent Technologies and Nortel Networks designating 3Com as the vendor of choice for the CDMA Interworking Function (IWF) for circuit switched wireless data access solutions. As the only vendor offering the CDMA IWF technology platform, 3Com leads the global data interworking market-specifically, 3Com garners 100% of the domestic and over 95% of the overseas markets in the CDMA wireless arena.
"The 3Com CDMA IWF implementation places the company at the forefront of wireless data applications - a vital component of converged networks, says Irfan Ali, vice president and general manager of 3Com Carrier Systems. "This product is the result of close teamwork and collaboration between our respective companies, and allows our customers to utilise their CDMA networks for value-added data applications."
3Com`s IWF platform acts as a gateway between wireless CDMA networks and the wireline PSTN, providing the interworking and protocol conversions required to deliver circuit-switched data capability to mobile users, explains 3Com SA`s pre sales manager, Paul Ruinard. "It provides transparent, high-speed, reliable CDMA data connections for sending and receiving fax messages, for accessing E-mail, the Internet and online services, and for secure connections to private intranets using L2TP and PPTP tunneling technology," he says.
3Com`s IWF technology is based on the company`s award-winning Total Control multi-service access platform. Ruinaard points out that this platform provides telecommunications carriers, service providers, and large enterprises a powerful and complete remote solution, including support for remote access, VoIP, and virtual private networking applications.
"The platform is designed for service reliability, using redundant power supplies and modular application cards to prevent a single point of failure," he adds. "In addition, its modular architecture supports hot-swapping of interface and application cards so that the system remains live and online, thus minimizing network downtime."
