Unisys has won a contract to provide Lufthansa Systems with its Airline Core Systems Solution (AirCore).
The system is designed to help airlines streamline reservation processes, reduce costs, enhance customer services and increase sales, to Lufthansa Systems for its more than 40 airline customers globally.
"This deal has the potential to propel Unisys Africa into the leading IT service provider role for the airline and aviation industry in Africa," says Marius Krige, market management director at Unisys Africa.
AirCore will support Lufthansa Systems` Future Airline Core Environment (Face) programs. Face will provide airlines with a broad spectrum of passenger services solutions, including expanded electronic distribution channels, which will enable a reduction in an airline`s distribution costs.
Airlines will also be able to swiftly respond to changing market conditions and provide services based on passengers` personal needs.
AirCore will be Lufthansa Systems` third-generation reservation solution from Unisys, and the new agreement builds on the companies` 30-plus-year relationship.
"Unisys and Lufthansa Systems have enjoyed a long and successful cooperative relationship. For our next-generation passenger airline solution Face, we are delighted to welcome Unisys as our leading technology partner," says Lufthansa Systems` CEO, Wolfgang Gohde.
Krige says: "AirCore is built based on the Unisys 3D Visible Enterprise strategy, which is designed to give clients greater visibility into the cause-and- effect relationships among strategy, processes, applications and infrastructure. This allows a company to understand how future technology changes will likely affect its business. This level of visibility enables companies to move one step closer to being 3D Visible Enterprises - organisations that are able to see the impact of their business decisions before they are made.
"In utilising Unisys AirCore, local players in the airline and aviation industry can benefit from the most advanced solution designed to cover all airline business models from low cost to full alliance functionality."
