Web-enablement specialist and local distributor of Macromedia products, Dax Data, has announced that Macromedia Tools, Players and Server Technologies will support Microsoft`s .Net platform and its programming model, the .Net Framework.
Jeremy Matthews, MD of Dax Data, says Macromedia is working closely with Microsoft to ensure interoperability between the .Net Framework and its own suite of tools, servers and players. "The logic behind the move is that .Net greatly simplifies the creation of XML Web services.
"For example, enabling Macromedia Dreamweaver UltraDev in this manner will allow the more than two million strong Dreamweaver developer community to visually build dynamic ASP.Net applications using an approachable, visual development environment," he adds.
Matthews views the announcement as proof of Macromedia`s is commitment to building products that enable users to harness the power of .Net and XML Web services. "These are going to be great environments for Macromedia customers to use our tools, servers and players to deliver more powerful experiences across their platforms of choice," he says.
Marie Huwe, general manager of the .Net Developer and Platform Evangelism Group at Microsoft, received news of Macromedia`s plans enthusiastically. "It`s great to see the innovation that Macromedia brought to Web development being brought to Microsoft .Net. We believe that coupling the next generation of Dreamweaver UltraDev with .Net will benefit both companies` customers tremendously."
A future generation of Macromedia Dreamweaver UltraDev will be complementary to Visual Studio .Net, as the products use two different models to enable users to build dynamic Web applications. The future version will also enable developers to use familiar web development techniques, such as simple drag-and-drop authoring, to visually assemble complex .NET Framework Web applications.
Macromedia is also working to ensure that future versions of its Flash Player and ColdFusion products fully support the .Net Framework. "Flash Player already has rich XML support and Web services integration that will simplify the authoring of powerful client applications," says Matthews. The next major release of Macromedia ColdFusion, code-named "Neo" will also inter-operate with Microsoft .Net platform technologies through support for XML Web services and .Net servers.
The Microsoft .Net Platform is Microsoft`s initiative for creating the next generation of software, which melds computing and communications in a revolutionary way. This vision offers developers, businesses and consumers the ability to harness technology on their terms and the tools they need to create truly distributed Web services making information available any time, any place and on any device.
