Dax Data, local distributor of Macromedia software, has announced the imminent availability of ColdFusion Server 5 - a release the company believes reinforces Macromedia`s commitment to ColdFusion and underpins the strategy to continue offering a cost-effective way to efficiently develop dynamic content and applications.
Jeremy Matthews, MD of Dax Data, says the announcement signals Macromedia`s commitment to the ColdFusion platform after its merger with Macromedia.
"ColdFusion 5 offers major enhancements in development, administration, and performance. A new integrated charting engine, advanced full text searching, and new language features enable faster development of business applications," he says.
"In addition, extensive new administrative tools reduce the time and costs for moving from development to production," notes Matthews.
The new release also delivers a significant performance increase - running some applications as much as three times faster than ColdFusion 4.5.
"It also supports features such as query of queries and application deployment services, that will make development more productive and deployment easier," he adds.
"Significant improvement in the performance of existing applications that have been migrated to ColdFusion Server 5 have also been reported."
In the new market climate, the highest priority among CIOs` Internet investments is to control costs (Source: AMR Research, 2001). "This release of Macromedia ColdFusion addresses this by integrating functionality normally found in multiple server products into a single, highly productive and cost-effective development solution," explains Matthews.
Mark Driver, research director at Gartner Group, says that organisation sees the server market consolidating as application server vendors aggregate functionality from multiple products into a single offering.
"Products like ColdFusion 5.0 are part of this trend, and by combining the application development technology with graphing, searching, and advanced features for data integration, they provide a compelling solution to companies looking for rapid Web application development."
