Local Macromedia distributor and Web enablement specialist, Dax Data, has announced the immediate availability of the updated Flash Communications Server, Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX 1.5.

"Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX enables our customers to provide the best possible interactive rich media experiences on the Internet," said Jeremy Matthews, MD of Dax Data. "Corporations can now integrate audio and video applications directly into their Web sites with instant-on availability and unprecedented levels of interactivity."

He adds that Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX integrates support for streaming media, real-time collaboration and multi-way video, audio and text messaging into a single solution.

"With HTTP tunnelling and secure sockets layer (SSL) gateway support, server traffic can now traverse firewalls and proxies and deliver secure information to ensure everyone can experience the content," says Matthews. "MP3 support enables developers to stream high-quality audio without requiring the user to download and playback audio files."

With more hosting providers and ISPs supporting the product, the latest MX release includes better administration and management of virtual hosts. The update also adds support for Red Hat Linux.

Yahoo uses Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX to deliver elements in the front page for SBC Yahoo DSL, a broadband service developed through an alliance between Yahoo and SBC Communications Inc. This is an innovative Internet service that delivers an entirely new kind of broadband experience, SBC Yahoo DSL uses the Macromedia server to deliver streaming video news and movie trailers on-demand.

"A free Developer Edition of Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX 1.5 has also been announced," says Matthews. "This is a fully functioning, but capacity-restricted, version of the server that application developers can use to learn the product and author applications."
