At the heart of IOCORE`s customisable spatial and business data integration solution is Macromedia`s JRun Java Application Server technology, facilitating rapid implementation of business intelligence solutions over a Web environment and integrating traditional data with rich media such as geographical data and business documents.
Dubbed Cartagena, the solution is a suite of components that consists of a Java Engine used for building business objects, a Query Builder for rapid and flexible interrogation of data, a Library for storing and content-searching business documents, a Bulletin Board for collaboration and a Map Viewer for displaying business data spatially.
Paul van Niekerk, technical consultant at IOCORE, comments: "Cartagena has been developed specifically to meet demand for a solution that empowers analysts and senior managers to make informed decisions in real time, using all the information at their disposal."
Jeremy Matthews, MD of DaxData, says Macromedia JRun 4 was well suited to IOCORE`s needs: "It provides a reliable J2EE 1.3 compatible platform that is compliant with the latest standards, clustering technology and Web services integration."
Consequently, Cartagena was built using J2EE technologies and designed to run on a three-tier architecture: an Oracle database in the back-end, a Web browser in the front-end and a J2EE-compliant application server (JRun) as the middle tier.
"JRun is currently being used in a production environment where its reputation as a reliable and fast Java application server solution is being borne out," says Van Niekerk.
Incorporated in September 1989, Dax Data has offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg, is an IBM Business Partner, a Microsoft Solution Provider and holds local distribution rights for Macromedia, NetManage, MGI, Tango/04, DataMirror and Graphon products. The company has an extensive skills-base for these products, assisting southern African enterprises to tackle complex host-to-any connectivity issues, Internet-based delivery mechanisms and data replication solutions.
Dax Data and its partners offer value-added services around the Web enablement of business applications - in effect, helping customers to maximise their investment in legacy systems by making the data, information and applications they contain available across multiple back-end and client technologies.
