The recent spin-off of Lannet from Madge Networks has, says Madge Africa MD Peter Turvey, led to some uncertainty in the market concerning Madge`s position on ATM topology.
"Madge recognises that ATM is a strategic LAN backbone technology for many major Token Ring sites, and will remain so because of its scalability, resilience, guaranteed quality of service, and WAN connectivity," Turvey stated, "and we will continue to offer best-of-class ATM products to meet these needs."
He explained that the Madge Collage 700 series of modular backbone ATM switches is based on Madge`s own hardware and software technology, offering advanced features such as Resilient LANE Services, Active Broadcast Control, and ATM-SMON (ATM Switch Monitoring).
"Madge is actively developing new enhancements for the Collage 700 range, including higher switching capacities, 622Mbps interfaces, and PNNI. In addition, the award-winning Madge Collage 155 PCI Adapter provides an ideal solution for server and high-performance desktop connections. Madge`s Smart Ringswitch ATM Uplink Module, part of Madge`s Smart Ringswitch family of Token Ring switching products, provides Token Ring connectivity."
