Madge Networks has unveiled the Collage 750 Backbone ATM Switch, a manageable and affordable solution for Token Ring and Ethernet users deploying ATM backbones in LAN and campus environments.
Featuring flexible resilience and manageability, the switch boasts the industry`s highest price/ performance level with a suggested list price from only US$999 per port. Major enhancements over the previous Collage 740 model include significant increases in bandwidth capacity and port density and the provision of 622Mbps ports, improving network scalability while reducing the cost of deploying ATM technology in the backbone.
With its high switching capacity, the Collage 750 ATM switch provides networks with high performance switching to relieve backbone congestion and support multi-services applications. The modular design and the availability of ultra high-speed 622Mbps interfaces allow for flexible and highly scalable deployment across the network. A simple, low cost upgrade path is available for Collage 740 ATM switch users.
The Collage 750 ATM switch ships with a suite of management software which facilitates network configuration, fault diagnosis and performance management and features unique VC Tracing and LANE management capabilities. Madge`s ATM SMON switch monitoring software, which reports bandwidth utilisation and quality of service usage, is available separately.
For enhanced network reliability, Madge offers resilient LANE Services Software which incorporates Madge`s Active Broadcast Control (ABC) technology to filter unnecessary broadcast traffic.

The Collage 750 Backbone ATM switch delivers on the company`s roadmap declared in the Madge Perspective strategy to offer a complete range of best-of-class Token Ring, High Speed Token Ring and ATM backbone solutions.
A range of 155Mbps, 622Mbps and E1/T1 WAN option modules are available for the Collage ATM switch. The suggested list price for the Collage 750 ATM Backbone Switch is $11,495 excluding option modules ($13,495 with LANE Services Software). First shipments are scheduled for November 1998.
