Madge Networks has appointed Central Point Communications (CPC) as its Video and Access Switch distributor. "Video is one of our key focus areas, so CPC - which specialises in video conferencing, video on demand, network broad and narrow casting and integrated custom software development - will fit perfectly into our marketing strategy," said Madge Business Development Manager Kevin Barnard. CPC, he said, has a number of strategic products such as VCON and Silicon Graphics to incorporate into its solutions, and Madge Networks` traditional and video-based switching and routing peripherals will round out its offerings. "Technology in itself cannot always provide a total solution," said CPC Managing Director Frans Theron. "Integration of diverse technologies as well as business requirements of the customer lie at the heart of what we do. "Our customers generally require solutions and applications which are not available off-the-shelf, so once we understand what the real need is, we`ll put forward a solution made up of technological elements which, once integrated, will provide a single, custom-designed interface," he said. Madge intelligent edge switching nodes are designed specifically for carrier applications. The unique features of the ESN Series enable rapid, economic provisioning of ISDN services from non-ISDN enabled CO switches. Other applications include implementation of ISDN overlay networks over existing T1 infrastructures, and intelligent Internet traffic bleed-off to reduce network congestion. The ESN Series can be deployed as switching nodes either at the network edge or as customer located equipment. A wide range of hot swappable, plug-in interface modules gives great flexibility and scaleability in configuring and provisioning the node to support complex network applications. Madge AccessWare system and network management software, supplied with the edge switching node, provides support for a multitude of network protocols, protocol translations, multiple public and private dialing plans, and local or remote diagnostics and trouble shooting using a built-in protocol analyzer. Customer Benefits * Fast, cost effective ISDN deployment * Supports PRI and BRI services * Provides flexible, highly scaleable network solutions Product Features * Hot-swappable plug-in modules * Wide range of network and CPE interface modules * Comprehensive suite of dial plans and protocols The Madge ESN Series+ of sophisticated PSTN edge switching nodes combines a modular network access and switching architecture to aggregate video, data, and voice, minimizing lifecycle network access costs while providing reliable and scaleable solutions for central office and customer located digital network distribution. High Performance In today`s rapidly changing telecommunications environment new, creative approaches are required to enable you to provide the services your customers demand, at competitive rates, in a timely and efficient manner. The Madge series of intelligent edge switching nodes offers a comprehensive suite of products that enable the rapid deployment and provisioning of flexible, highly scaleable, and cost-effective distributed network edge solutions to support a wide variety of customer applications. High-Performance Switching The Madge ESN Series high performance PSTN switching and modular architecture, provides reliable, network edge switching solutions for central office and customer located applications. The Madge ESN Series is a high capacity, high performance network access and switching system available in two different sizes of rack mountable modular slotted chassis. The ESN Series is designed specifically for use in central office, customer located, or customer premise applications requiring switching of up to 12,500 calls per hour or distribution of digital trunk lines within local exchange areas or large commercial campuses. ESN products are particularly well suited for applications where deployment or upgrade of larger central office switches would be impractical or uneconomic. Rugged Reliable Hardware Madge ESN products consist of ruggedly constructed rack mounting slotted hub systems. The ESN1000 can house six, and the ESN2000 twenty, hot swappable plug-in modules. Systems come with one INP4D System Controller Module located in slot one which performs all system control and management functions. The remaining slots will accept any combination of available network interface modules. Users can mix and match modules to configure the system to their needs. Major System Component Redundancy Major system components can be duplicated, in a redundant configuration, to insure maximum availability for mission-critical applications. The common logic redundancy option provides a second INP4D System Controller Module, located in slot two, which will operate in a master/slave mode to provide rapid unattended system restart in the event of failure of the master controller. The ESN2000 can accept up to two additional plug-in power supply modules to provide load sharing and power supply redundancy. Powerful Software Control Madge AccessWare+ CS, the ESN`s powerful operating system and network management software, enables the ESN`s unique architecture to deliver reliable, scaleable, and highly available network solutions, while setting a new standard in price performance for central office switching and corporate communications centers. AccessWare CS permits the ESN to mix and match network and port interfaces including integral multipoint control units (MCUs) for multisite video conferencing applications. AccessWare CS provides full port and network switching for all connections, and also permits support for 80 blocking or 44 non-blocking T1s in the ESN chassis and up to 72 high-speed inverse multiplexed ports. Through AccessWare CS` extensive dial plan and call handling capability, it enables flexible network access to switched and dedicated networks while offering a wide range of protocol, dial plan, and service conversions. This allows network connections to be established on a call-by-call basis over the most economical routes. AccessWare NMC network management console software enables control and provisioning of networking resources, alarm collection, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and collection of call detail records for billing purposes. The ESN architecture has several levels of redundancy making it self-healing and eliminating single points of failure in the network. Because AccessWare CS software supports the most globally dominant network protocols such as National ISDN1, Euro ISDN, 4ESS, 5ESS, DMS100, and DMS250 the ESN demonstrates its self-healing nature transparently each day through route and reroute diversity, carrier and POP diversity, and access diversity. Through AccessWare CS` call handling capability, the ESN slotted hubs can split and/or criss-cross loads with another ESN simultaneously, and between different carriers. This capability provides the highest successful call completion grade of service in the industry. ESN slotted hub hardware can also support multiple integral multipoint controller (MCU) modules, load sharing trunk modules, and load sharing, hot swappable power supplies. The combination of power, flexibility, and reliability make the ESN the optimum choice for network edge switching node applications.
