Madge Networks, a worldwide supplier of data, video and voice networking solutions, increased its worldwide Token Ring switching market share dramatically during the fourth quarter of 1998 following the introduction of its Smart DeskStream Token Ring switch.
According to the latest figures released by Dell`Oro, Madge`s worldwide market share in Token Ring switches increased by 13 per cent in the final quarter of 1998 (the largest percentage growth by any vendor during the period) taking it from fifth to second position with a share of 20 per cent. In addition, the report shows that Madge took the lead in the European Token Ring switching market during the fourth quarter of 1998 with a share of 25 per cent.
Demonstrating an overall market trend towards switched Token Ring networks, the report also shows a 200 per cent increase in worldwide port shipments between 1997 and 1998. As users move towards switched Token Ring over traditional shared hub environments to meet increasing network demands, they are reaping the benefits of improved network productivity and manageability with secure, dedicated bandwidth to connected PCs. Madge is the only Token Ring vendor to address these needs with its complete range of Token Ring switches, from the backbone with the Smart Ringswitch family through to the desktop with the Smart DeskStream switch, the industry`s lowest price Token Ring workgroup switch.
