Madge Networks cuts cost of upgrading token ring networks with new trade-in program

Johannesburg, 22 Jan 1999

Madge Networks, a worldwide supplier of networking solutions, has significantly reduced the cost of upgrading traditional shared to switched Token Ring with a new trade-in programme. With the Smart DeskStream Trade-in Program, for a limited period Token Ring users purchasing Madge`s Smart DeskStream Token Ring switch and trading in a minimum of 16 Token Ring hub ports, will receive up to R3000 cash back. This equates to a suggested per port list price of just R187.50 on Madge`s desktop switch.

Under the program, Token Ring users can upgrade inexpensively and easily to switched Token Ring and receive the benefits of improved network productivity, manageability and security. A company can trade in any Token Ring standalone or stackable hub, MAUs, CAUs, LAM1s or chassis modules from any manufacturer. With the purchase of each Smart DeskStream Token Ring switch, the organization can trade in a minimum of 16 managed, or 24 unmanaged hub ports and receive R3000. For example, if a customer buys three Smart DeskStream switches and trades in a total of 48 hub ports they will receive R6,000 cash back.

"Madge is dedicated to bringing the advantages of switched Token Ring to end users at the lowest possible price. The Smart DeskStream Trade-In Program is substantially lowering the cost of upgrading from a traditional shared to a fully switched Token Ring network. Under the offer, users benefit from the lowest price per switched Token Ring port in the industry," comments Sue Crier, director of product marketing at Madge Networks.

The program applies to end user orders of the Madge Smart DeskStream Token Ring switch placed from 11 January 1999 to 30 June 1999. Further details on the offer can be found online at www.madge.com/deskstream

Smart DeskStream Token Ring Switch

Madge Networks` Smart DeskStream Token Ring Switch has been designed to provide the benefits of full Token Ring switching for direct PC connections. As a direct replacement for existing hubs, the switch will use currently installed Token Ring adapters, cabling and racking, avoiding the need for further investment. It employs high speed, low latency cut-through switching to deliver wire-speed bandwidth to every desk, optimising network-application performance. The Smart DeskStream TR Fibere Module allows easy connection in Fibre-oriented networks, while HSTR modules increase the available bandwidth for workgroup connections to network backbone resources.
