Madge Networks, a worldwide supplier of data, video and voice networking solutions, and IP Metrics, a leading developer of availability management software for PC networks, have teamed up to offer Token Ring network managers a simple and cost effective solution to upgrade their server network connections. Designed for mission critical server applications, the Madge HSTR (High Speed Token Ring) Server Kit provides increased network availability, scalability, manageability, resilience and improved server response time.
To assist Token Ring network administrators in meeting the demands of increasingly sophisticated business critical applications for reliable high speed network server connections, Madge is offering a bundle of products to upgrade network server connections to 100 Mbps.
The promotion, which will run until June 30, 1999, includes two Madge Smart 100/16/4 PCI-HS Ringnodes, Madge LAN Support Software 6.1 (HSTR) and a trial version of IP Metrics NIC Express Management Software, all for under R2,000.
IP Metrics software provides redundancy and load balancing across multiple Token-Ring adapters in a NIC Express array. This eliminates the potential point of failure caused by a single adapter and its network connection and increases the total server throughput, eliminating network bottlenecks.
In addition all future purchases of the IP Metrics NIC Express Management Software will be subject to a 20% discount.
Madge drops pricing on Cardbus Token Ring Adapters
Madge has also announced a reduction in the cost of its Cardbus Token Ring Adapters. These adapters are now the same price as Madge`s PCMCIA offerings.
Cardbus is a new bus technology used in laptop PCs. Previously when using PCMCIA, users were unable to achieve wirespeed performance out of a network. Cardbus now makes it possible for users to achieve wirespeed performance, making it suitable for use with network analysers, multimedia applications such as video conferencing, or bandwidth intensive data applications.
This will afford customers the benefit of full 32 bit technology on their laptop PCs for the same price they would pay for the 16 bit adapter.
