Penuell Maduna, a former minister of justice and minister of minerals and energy, has been appointed as an independent, non-executive director to the Altron board. The appointment is effective 1 November.
"Penuell`s vast experience in the political, governmental and academic world is well known," says Altron chairman Bill Venter.
"He has also made a substantial contribution to the constitutional structures of our new democracy and is proving himself as an astute member of the private and corporate legal profession. Given his wide experience and his extensive international exposure, I am looking forward to working closely with him on the Altron board of directors."
Maduna has a doctorate in law from Unisa, and a LLM and higher diploma in tax law from the University of the Witwatersrand. He was also a visiting scholar of constitutional law at the Columbia University Law School in New York. He serves as a member of the board of the Faculty of Law at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Maduna was appointed deputy minister of home affairs after the 1994 elections and became minister of minerals and energy in June 1996. After the 1999 elections, he served as minister of justice and constitutional development.
He joined the corporate environment earlier this year as senior special adviser to Sasol, and partner and director of Bowman Gilfillan Attorneys.
