Magic Software has introduced eMerchant, a new business-to-business e-commerce solution suited for businesses with large inventories, high volumes of transactions, and substantial amounts of repetitive business with regular customers.
In addition to its transaction processing and order entry mechanism, Magic-based eMerchant features a secure and scalable back-end system that integrates with existing business systems and supports rapid or unpredictable growth.
eMerchant, a branded Magic application, is being introduced under the Company`s new "e-Commerce - We Deliver" solutions strategy. It is the latest of several e-commerce solutions developed using Magic, the rapid application development and deployment (RADD) toolset. Magic expects to make several additional e-commerce announcements under the "e-Commerce - We Deliver" banner in coming months.
eMerchant has been designed to manage inventories of hundreds of thousands of products, and to process thousands of transactions per hour. Its quick and easy manipulation of multiple items, combined with its sophisticated transaction processing, ensures that order production and delivery schedules are handled expeditiously. This can be particularly beneficial for superstores and companies seeking to more efficiently link their supply chains.
In addition, eMerchant can store past customer orders, making it ideal for businesses with repetitive ordering. It can also present detailed and summarized versions of a customer`s purchase folders, and make purchasing suggestions based upon a customer`s past history and a product`s current availability. And it can capture information on customers` buying patterns. The application stores customer profiles and constantly collects, updates, sorts and analyzes customer data to provide critical information for future planning and more targeted marketing.
"eMerchant was developed with the understanding that, as more and more companies take their businesses to the Web, competitive advantage and profitability will be tied to transactional speed," says Jack Dunietz, CEO of Magic. "It also recognises how anticipating customer needs and providing more personalized service can positively impact a company`s bottom line."
Another key feature of eMerchant is its built-in security. With its ability to limit application access based on specific sets of user criteria, eMerchant helps companies ensure the reliability of business transactions.
Seamless integration and growth
eMerchant also offers seamless integration with existing applications, business processes and systems, effectively managing current complex technological topographies and extending them to the Web. The existing systems and applications can be either internal or belong to trading partners.
"Because eMerchant is Magic-based, it has multiple native database gateways that enable companies to quickly integrate data from a variety of sources. Companies can bridge disparate information sources, increasing the level of business communication among organisations with wide varieties of platforms," adds Dunietz. "This can mean a substantial cost and time savings for businesses. It also means that investments in existing systems can be used to their fullest."
In addition, Magic`s scalability enables easy modification of eMerchant to recognise changes in requirements, and unpredictable or rapid growth that can come with unexpected peak usage.
"A key advantage of eMerchant is that it allows for increased involvement of customers, partners and suppliers, as well as rapid or unexpected growth," Dunietz adds. "Magic provides the functionality needed to manage complex business relationships, optimise the links with supply chains, and handle any volume of Web transactions."
Hundreds of companies around the world already have deployed other web-based, state-of-the-art, custom e-commerce applications built with Magic. They include everything from business-to-consumer applications for retail operations to business-to-business applications for manufacturing and distribution concerns. They share several key characteristics, including complex data mining, fast search and sophisticated follow-up functionality - functionality that Magic can provide in a minimum amount of time.
"If I had to list two or three of the most important benefits of a Magic-developed e-commerce solution, they would be its ability to link supply chains, its core transaction processing and dynamic HTML pages, and its ability to leverage existing applications and data, and co-exist with multiple platforms," says Dunietz. "They offer a cost-effective solution for achieving a competitive advantage and increasing revenues."
Magic is represented in South Africa, by Magic SA, a division of Exsol.
