The order will include shipment of 1 100 Intel-based high-end Primergy servers (models 460 and 760), 15 000 Scenic Pro personal computers for use as clients, 10 000 flat-screen monitors, and a complete set of Microsoft system and application software to go with them.
Over the next two years, Commerzbank will be investing hundreds of millions of marks in a complete refit of its branch office environment. This new, large order underscores the strategic partnership that exists between the two companies.
Commerzbank expects to reap dramatic increases in efficiency from the new DP landscape with a focus on network computing. "The NT standard offers uniformity across operating systems, applications, development environment and on-screen presentation like no other," says Dr. Konrad Röntgen, Executive Vice President and Head of IT at Commerzbank.
"A crucial factor in our decision was the close cooperation between Siemens Nixdorf and Microsoft, which we consider is essential for this project." Commerzbank also firmly believes that the move to NT will add further considerable improvements to what is already a very high caliber of customer consulting: customer consultants will have all the relevant data available at their fingertips in the local branch offices.
Two additional arguments influenced the decision in favor of the Paderborn-based IT supplier: "One is Siemens Nixdorf`s excellent reputation for solutions competence; but the fact that it offered the best cost/benefit ratio also played a key role," explains Peter Kraemer, Senior Vice President and Responsible for IT production at Commerzbank AG.
System roll-out is scheduled to begin in August 1998. The full range of new equipment is to be installed at Commerzbank by May 1999.
