A new Mango iOS app is now available in the Apple App Store, and the airline says it aims to make the app available on other platforms in the coming months.
Mango has recently been pushing to bolster its mobile service offerings, and in October last year it released a mobi-site with full booking functionality. Since its launch, over 30 000 flight queries have been logged on the platform.
According to Mango, usage of the mobi-site has been dominated by iOS users, accounting for 60% of enquiries.
Explaining the functionality of the new app, Mango says: "Users will be able to book, pay, change flights, receive updated airline communication and participate in promotions, among others functions. An information wallet will also allow users to store generic travel detail for future ease-of-use."
Mango CEO Nick Bezuidenhout says the airline's mobile services aim to tap into the market of South Africans who only access the Internet via their phones: "The response to the launch of our mobi-site last year indicated the growing need for mobile accessibility.
"With the exceptionally high penetration of mobile technology in SA, as well as an increase in bandwidth and the proliferation of ancillary devices such as tablets, we anticipate access by a new market segment of approximately four million new customers."
In October last year, Mango announced that 100% of its fleet (six Boeing 737-800 aircraft) were equipped with G-Connect In-Flight WiFi.
