MapIT plans to host a free workshop to unveil its new location-based service platform to developers.
The company says the workshop, called DevZone Day - after the new DevZone platform - will feature two sessions, titled “Web Maps API” and “Going Mobile”. A competition will also run on the day for the first application to be developed on the platform.
MapIT says Web Maps API will present developers with information on how to build LBS for desktop browsers, and includes features such as maps, map overlays, routing, address search and local content. The Going Mobile session will offer training on how to develop native and mobile LBS applications on several mobile operating systems and mobile browers.
Etienne Louw, MD of MapIT, says DevZone Day will provide developers with the latest information on how to optimise an integrated LBS platform.
According to the company, users of MapIT's LBS technologies will receive free access to DevZone, and features including LBS development tools, during the development phase of their applications. The company adds that the DevZone platform is supported by data and technology from TomTom Africa.
The workshop will be held on 24 February, at the Leriba Hotel and Spa, in Centurion.
