South African digital mapping company MapIT has become a member of the Mobile Marketing Association's (MMA's) South African Council.

“Mobile platforms are becoming increasingly important in the rapidly evolving South African advertising and marketing industry,” says MapIT MD Etienne Louw.

“By joining the MMA, MapIT is showing its support and commitment to the development of mobile technologies and their expanding role on the continent.”

MapIT offers location-based services (LBS) to mobile marketing applications throughout Africa. It supplies commerce and industry with applications and data used for asset tracking, fleet management, business and marketing intelligence, and Web services.

“We believe that mobile is the future when it comes to mapping and technology,” adds Louw.

He says companies across all sectors should be making moves toward incorporating mobile in order to promote their products and services.

“The MMA is the premier global non-profit trade association, representing all the major players in the mobile marketing value chain. With over 700 member companies, the MMA is an action-oriented organisation with a global focus, regional actions and local relevance,” says the company.

It adds that the MMA's primary focus is to establish mobile as an indispensable part of the marketing mix. It seeks to promote, educate, measure, guide and protect the mobile marketing industry worldwide.

The MMA global headquarters are in the US and it has regional chapters in North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia.
