Marconi, a global supplier of advanced networking solutions, has announced an incentive and upgrade programme for users of 3Com Corp.`s CoreBuilder 7000/9000 switches that includes a free multi-function ESX-3000 chassis. Part of Marconi`s Competitive Migration Solutions Program, the "Trade in The Core" offer provides a seamless migration path for customers affected by 3Com`s recent decision to exit the high-networking solution arena.
"We believe that many customers will find that Marconi`s expertise in traffic engineering and Quality of Service is the right choice for the modern enterprise network," says Koos Vorster, Chief Executive of Marconi Communications South Africa.
Built on Marconi`s Competitive Migration Program, the "Trade in The Core" offer provides CoreBuilder customers with a free ESX-3000 chassis, and also includes higher port trade-in savings and lower migration costs for future system upgrades than other publicised discount, rebate or trade-in programmes related to 3Com`s exit announcement.
Vorster says that the Marconi programme offers another advantage. "Network administrators and information technology managers can rely on Marconi for a stable market presence, innovative product development and round-the-clock customer service for all networking needs. Existing Marconi customers know, and new customers will be happy to learn, that Marconi`s commitment to high-end networking solutions continues to grow with new products designed to exceed the needs of increasingly demanding users."
The ESX-3000 switch is a natural replacement for the CoreBuilder series, supporting both ATM and Ethernet integrated architecture on the same chassis. With the ESX-3000, customers can migrate to other networking technologies at their own pace and budget without being forced into an immediate forklift upgrade of their current network infrastructure.
Programme details:
The Competitive Migration Solutions Programme "Trade In The Core" offer, effective until September 30, 2000, includes:
FREE 1 ESX-3000 20 Gig chassis starter kit with trade-in of CoreBuilder 9000 ATM switch.
FREE 1 ESX-3000 10 Gig chassis starter kit with trade-in of CoreBuilder 7000 ATM switch
The chassis configuration includes chassis, fans, cable management, power supply, SCP/switch fabric and mounting shelf.
Customer Advantages:
While the Competitive Migration Solutions Program provides the rationale and incentives for network or IT administrators to migrate to Marconi solutions, the special "Trade in The Core" offer gives additional reasons and incentives to make the switch. "By choosing the proven reliability of Marconi, administrators can preserve their investment in ATM infrastructure, confident it was the right choice. They retain the ability to support converged voice, video and data traffic; the performance and capacity advantages of smart traffic management; and they will not be forced into a major network upgrade, thereby avoiding the extra cost of replacing equipment on the network edge and in wiring closets," says Vorster.
The ESX-3000:
The ESC-3000 is a high-density, flexible campus solution that leverages an integrated architecture for interconnecting Ethernet and ATM with 192 ports of 10/100 Ethernet or 128 OC-3 ATM or 32 OC-12 ATM ports, and is 2.5Gbps OC-48c ready. It allows either the ATM or the Ethernet technology port card to be inserted into any of eight port slots without preconditions, offering customers the flexibility to implement an all Ethernet, an all ATM, or a mixed Ethernet and ATM network solution.
The ESX-3000 is based on the same industry-leading cell technology used in the ForeRunner ASX ATM backbone switches. By leveraging the ForeRunner ASX switch architecture and ForeThought software, the ESX-3000 can provide many of the backbone ATM performance capabilities that are essential to preserve quality of service across connections on congestion-prone links. In addition, the ESX-3000 switch control processor delivers fast call set-up rate for rapid network convergence.
