Marconi appoints local empowerment vendors

To expand and grow its markets in southern Africa, Marconi, a global supplier of advanced communications equipment solutions, has finalised partnership agreements with two Gauteng-based IT, telecommunications and empowerment companies, Cyberknowledge Systems and Nambiti Technologies.

Both companies have been appointed value-added for Marconi`s range of end-to-end, new generation networking solutions.

"Our joint ventures with Nambiti and Cyberknowledge are integral to Marconi`s strategy to grow in southern Africa through local partnerships. It is also a priority for us to create opportunities for empowerment companies to participate in the high end of telecommunications convergence technology," said Koos Vorster, chief executive of Marconi Communcations South Africa.

"Marconi is a global supplier of advanced communications solutions for new generation networks. We have a strong international technology base and one of our local objectives is the transfer of knowledge and skills to empowerment enterprises. Our new will be able to share in very exciting, leading-edge networking and communications technology developments."

Vorster added that South Africa and its SADC partners would need to invest in new generation broadband network technology to achieve real economic growth and improve overall standards of living: "These partnerships have been entered into so that local empowerment companies will be able to play their role in the building of vibrant local and regional economies."

Cyberknowledge chief executive Mohamed Madhi said he was delighted to have established a partnership with Marconi, given "their strength in the area of new generation networking solutions, which is particularly relevant" to needs in South Africa. "This partnership affords a growing company such as ourselves development opportunities through specialist skills transfer and involvement in convergence technology."

Kevin Paul, managing director of Nambiti Technologies said the relationship with Marconi was important for Nambiti to increase market share in the networking and telecommunications arena. "Through this partnership we will be able to offer existing and potential customers solutions that support the complete spectrum of enterprise network deployment."

He added that the partnership would also ensure transfer of skills to Nambiti`s technical team. "There is huge potential growth in e-commerce and network convergence and by positioning ourselves with a world class telecommunications vendor we will be able to capitalize on opportunities stemming from connectivity needs."
