Marconi Corporation plc is a global telecommunications equipment, services and solutions company. The company`s customer base includes many of the world`s largest telecommunications operators.
It has always been one of the goals and objectives of Marconi Communications South Africa to reach and maintain the highest standard of quality utilising the ISO suite of standards.
With the assistance of Marconi`s Northern Europe Quality organisation, the Networks Division of Marconi Communications South Africa has achieved registration as conforming to the Quality Management System ISO 9001:2000 in a very short but intensive eight-month period.
The BSI auditing activities were undertaken by the Senior Client Manager and the Lead Assessor for BSI in the European, Middle-Eastern and African regions. The ethos of BSI within SA being notably to work in partnership and strive to achieve the highest level of commitment towards excellence of customer service.
ISO accreditation was awarded to the NetworksDivision by the BSI (British Standards Institution) in SA on 9 June 2004. This makes the 33rd addition to the international Marconi BSI certificate.
The Quality Management System that has been put in place is based on the system successfully used in the larger organisation of Marconi Northern Europe, stated Simon Lamb, the Quality Representative for Marconi Networks in South Africa. This ISO registration will give our customers and prospective customers confidence of delivery of quality-controlled products and services.
The four key factors that the initial BSI accreditation audit was based on are:
* Commitment by management - A business organisation cannot run a quality management system without the full commitment of management.
* Management of resources - Correct and monitored utilisation of the business resources, as this will assist in gaining a satisfied customer.
* Product realisation - The management of the business processes.
* Measurement, analysis and improvement - business objectives must be measured and analysed, the results being used for continual improvement.
At present, Marconi Communications South Africa is busy with projects in Namibia, Kenya, Uganda and in SA, with the possibility of several new projects in other African countries.
