As astute businesses capitalise on evidence that brick and mortar businesses coupled with an presence are best positioned for success, Tarsus Technologies has increased a drive to become the best-stocked distributor of the hardware to enable online business.

Guy Whitcroft, managing director for Tarsus reveals that the company carries a full range of enterprise solutions from a variety of leading vendors, including Compaq, IBM, Intel , and Hewlett-Packard.

"As the trend for businesses to create online presences continues, the demand for Internet servers and storage products will increase dramatically. Tarsus has taken this into account and carries solutions that are ideal for every level of business," he states.

According to Whitcroft, the potential market for Internet-enabling suppliers is massive: "According to a study conducted by research firm BMI-TechKnowledge, a mere 8% of South African businesses have established transactive, e-commerce Websites, as opposed to online brochures. These leaders will shortly be followed by others who have to take cognisance of the necessity of the Internet," says Whitcroft.

BMI-T analyst Andreas Bertoldi notes that the study, titled `SA Company e-Commerce Survey 2000` further highlights the potential for savvy service providers. "Sixty-five per cent of companies participating in the survey felt that the Internet (in general, rather than electronic commerce specifically) is exceeding their expectation levels and has significantly impacted their businesses," he says.

The infrastructure required to establish successful commercial sites includes storage solutions for the enormous volumes of information that Web trade generates. This information is extremely valuable as it can be capitalised upon for customer relationship management (CRM) initiatives; Because of this value, failsafe storage solutions are a prerequisite. "As the sole authorised Compaq StorageWorks distributor for South Africa, Tarsus has everything from servers to complex storage and solutions for Internet business creation," says Whitcroft.

He notes that, almost paradoxically, the Internet phenomenon has also resulted in increased printing by end users. "The Internet has resulted in an estimated 20% increase in pages printed at sites connected to the Internet, which has resulted in massive demand for printing solutions," he says. Tarsus is a leading distributor of Hewlett-Packard printers, which enjoy a 60%+ market share in South Africa.

Tarsus Technologies is also sole distributor for Samsung`s celebrated range of monitors, as well as carrying the agency for APC and MGE UPS systems. Tarsus Technologies offers a complete range of hardware to get your business reliably and safely into the e-business era.
