Local DrayTek distributor Network Platforms has announced the availability of the Vigor 2820, a combined ADSL router for Internet access, firewall, VPN device and Ethernet switch.
As DrayTek`s flagship ADSL router, the Vigor2820 includes features such as VLAN, QOS, Content filtering, VPN support for up to 32 tunnels and a USB printer port and support for all current ADSL technologies. It also boasts parental control and peer-to-peer software restriction, like blocking of Messenger and file-sharing.
Network Platforms managing director Bradley Love says the market is upbeat about the DrayTek Vigor 2820 ADSL 2/2+ Router. "The new Vigor2820 series has been greeted with much enthusiasm, mainly because this ADSL modem/router has got a second Ethernet WAN port. This model also has a Gigabit LAN port, the possibility for 32 IPSec VPN connections, an advanced firewall and an USB port that supports printers."
The Vigor2820 series is a universal router for ADSL, cable, 3G mobile and satellite. It has an ADSL2/2+ built-in and a second WAN port that can take on any access, including ADSL2/2+, 3G, WiMax, Diginet and Satellite. Like its Vigor2820 predecessor, a USB 2.0 port allows connection with a 3G HSDPA broadband modem. This flexible second WAN port and/or USB port allows diversification of broadband accesses, ensuring full service availability in mission-critical operations.
The two WANs can work in separate, load balance or failover modes. The Vigor2820 includes full packet-level Stateful Packet Inspection, not only the inherent NAT security and port-blocking of other routers. The router also employs keep-state packet recording which means that when a packet is sent out, a reciprocal record is kept to allow a packet coming back in the opposite direction. However, a default `deny` policy means that any packet arriving which appears unsolicited won`t get through. With SPI enabled, this is stricter and more secure than NAT alone, and also works for non-NAT routed connections.
Love says the Vigor2820 also features automatic protection from Dos/DDos (Denial of Service/Distributed Denial of Service) attacks and IP anti-spoofing. "User-definable filters also allow users to add additional protection to their connection. For added confidence, potential or foiled attacks are logged and can be reported via the router`s syslog facility."
The Vigor2820 is an ADSL2+ router with a second Ethernet WAN which can connect to DSL / Cable modem or fibre media converter for policy-based load-balance, fail-over and bandwidth on demand. This second WAN Port router can connect to ADSL services directly, cable modem or fibre media converter (FiOS, Lightspeed). It also features advanced bandwidth control mechanisms such as IP-layer QoS, NAT Session Limitation, Bandwidth Borrowed, etc, to allow easy, flexible and reliable access control and bandwidth management.
With hardware-based implementation of the VPN protocol, the Vigor2820 supports up to 32 VPN tunnels using advanced protocols such as IPSec/PPTP/L2TP/L2TP over IPSec with AES/DES/3DES for encryption and MD5/SHA-1 for authentication.
This SPI firewall uses Object-based design to make setting of firewall policies easy. The CSM feature allows more precise and efficient access control for URL/Web content filtering, IM and P2P applications.
