Master Data Management is the South African reseller for Trillium Software, a business of Harte-Hanks, which was recently positioned in the leaders' quadrant of Gartner's influential Magic Quadrant for Data Quality Tools 2011 research report.
Trillium Software was cited as a leader in data quality based on strong customer satisfaction, its track record and knowledge of the data quality space, and powerful technology capabilities to enrich the value of data.
The Magic Quadrant for Data Quality tools is an annual research report that includes a graphical representation of a marketplace, in this case, the data quality market. It depicts Gartner's analysis of how certain vendors measure up against criteria for that market, as defined by Gartner. You can download a complimentary copy of the Magic Quadrant by clicking here.
Len Dubois, senior vice-president of marketing at Trillium Software, reflected on the honour by saying: “We believe Trillium Software's position in the Magic Quadrant is affirmation that our data quality functionality, business focus and brand recognition remain very strong in a market crowded with vendors whose first priority is something other than data quality. Our customers continue to cite our data quality history, strong track record and experience as a significant factor when selecting us over competitors."
Gary Allemann, Managing Director at South Africa-based Master Data Management, states: “We have noted that local businesses are following global trends with customers increasingly focusing on support for data governance. This is largely driven by the emergence of legislation such as Basel II and guidelines such as King II that drive good corporate governance and mitigate risk.
“Interestingly, we have delivered a number of projects to identify and address data quality issues impacting on non-customer data. These include improving billing data quality to help local authorities pass their financial audits, assistance with inconsistent lease and contracts master data for a major bank, and projects to address data quality issues impacting on supply chain and human resources management within the mining sector.”
The Magic Quadrant research states that "leaders" in the market demonstrate strength across a complete range of data quality functionality, including profiling, parsing, standardisation, matching, validation and enrichment. They exhibit a clear understanding and vision for where the market is headed, including recognition of non-customer data quality issues and the delivery of enterprise-level data quality implementations. Leaders have an established market presence, significant size and a multinational presence (directly or as a result of a parent company).
“Demand for data quality tools remain strong, with more focus on deployments that support information governance programmes, master data management initiatives and application modernisation efforts,” reports Ted Friedman, distinguished analyst at Gartner. “In keeping with significant trends in data management, business roles such as data stewards will increasingly be responsible for managing the goals, rules processes and metrics associated with data quality improvement initiatives.”
“Organisations rely on information and data to fuel their business processes and performance, and so business executives are moving beyond the perception that data quality is simply an information technology responsibility,” said John Nicoli, managing director at Trillium Software. “Companies see the need for business leaders to work hand-in-hand with IT to solve their most problematic data challenges, or else suffer process performance issues that will negatively impact their business. By improving the value of process data across the enterprise, organisations can help to improve the overall customer experience, while driving positive results for critical operations such as financial risk and compliance, product and supply chain management, shipping and logistics, and marketing automation.”
