Mature ITIL strategy a challenge

Many organisations declare themselves 'immersed' in their IT infrastructure library (ITIL) implementation because they have succeeded with incident management, problem management and change management, states SearchCIO.

But for those looking to mature their ITIL strategy, the focus on continuous improvement is a harder road to tread. "IT doesn't get a lot of chances to prove itself to the business, but with incident, problem, and change, all of a sudden IT looks like they have their act together," says George Spalding, a senior analyst at Pink Elephant, an ITIL consultancy.

Future ITIL implementations often don't produce the same quick results or have the same immediate ROI to justify the effort.

Workforce management tools debuted

CyberShift and Oracle both introduced upgrades of their workforce management software at the 12th annual HR Technology Conference, addressing the need for increased productivity and visibility in global enterprises, Managing Automation reports.

Version 6.0 of CyberShift's workforce management 3G offering includes a next-generation distributed enterprise platform and a mobile device-independent platform to support an un-tethered workforce.

It also features a new reporting and framework, and improved usability features supported by the company's strategic implementation methodology.

Telecom expense management cuts bills

Telecom expense management software and services are critical elements of wide-area network (WAN) management that can reduce costs and improve efficiency, says SearchNetworking.

Lisa Pierce, president of consultancy Strategic Networks Group, says the process of telecom expense management can yield as much as 10% to 30% in annual savings for companies.

Sound business management is critical for good WAN management, particularly when it comes to provisioning new WAN links, maintaining an inventory of the network services already in the WAN, and auditing the invoices of network services providers.
