Maximise virus protection for remote installations

Johannesburg, 02 May 2000

Sterling Commerce, represented in South Africa by Supported has unveiled AntiVirus Manager 2.0, a re-engineered module for CONNECT:Remote that leverages the product's core capabilities for managing remote and mobile systems.

AntiVirus Manager 2.0 allows systems administrators to automatically forward McAfee's VirusScan engine and file updates out to remote networks as soon as they are available.

"Because of the dynamic nature of computer viruses, updates to anti-virus software must be instant and automatic. AntiVirus Manager 2.0 allows system administrators to use CONNECT:Remote to automatically implement the latest software to address these threats before damage is done," says Phil Coombs, product manager for Supported Software.

"Corporations with extensive fixed-sites continue to face specific computing challenges, particularly as their businesses expand," says Colin Mahony, an analyst in the Planning Strategies Group with the Yankee Group. "Viruses pose a serious threat to companies managing critical data across far-flung networks. The new AntiVirus Manager from Sterling Commerce simplifies the difficult task of antivirus management by providing a single point of distribution for updates to the familiar McAfee VirusScan engine."

Key features include:

  • Automatic distribution and installation of the latest McAfee VirusScan software;

  • Immediate, automatic delivery of VirusScan engine updates;

  • Fast delivery and installation of new engine and signature file updates;

  • Optimised to distribute to remote and mobile PCs that connect intermittently over slow-speed communication lines.
