Local storage and networking specialist distributor, Maxtec, has unveiled a new range of 3.3/5v Universal PCI multiport serial cards from Perle.
"With the continued development of the PCI bus, these new cards address the market opportunity for customers upgrading to a new generation of servers being produced with the 3.3v signalling PCI bus," says Perry Hutton, product manager at Maxtec.
He explains that, in an effort to reduce a PC`s power consumption, manufacturers such as IBM, Dell and HP are introducing systems that no longer use 5v signalling on their PCI bus, instead preferring the 3.3v standard.
"Perle has developed an enhanced range of serial products that are able to work on this new platform while still supporting the older 5v platforms.
"The new cards are compatible with the 2.3 PCI specification and by default use the Perle PCI-FAST card pin-outs (formerly Chase Research)," adds Hutton.
The UltraPort Universal 3.3/5v PCI cards provide a flexible range of solutions for retail point of sale, data acquisition, office automation and advanced kiosk design, to name a few. "The card communicates at bi-directional speeds of up to 921.6 Kbps per port with a high standard of surge protection to ensure the reliability and security of data," Hutton concludes.
