McAfee merges e-mail, Web Security

Johannesburg, 09 Nov 2009

McAfee has released McAfee Email and Web Appliance 5.5, which it says protects customers against the latest threats, manages traffic usage, and reduces system administration requirements.

"McAfee's combined intelligence capabilities add an essential layer of to guard against the most advanced threats and work by accumulating from millions of sensors, creating a real-time profile of all suspicious activity and content, and then watching for deviations based upon expected behaviour," says Jayson O'Reilly, regional manager for Africa at McAfee.

Designed for small and medium enterprises, the product consolidates Web and e-mail security into a single application. According to McAfee, it also features cluster and load balancing technologies, which allow shared scanning that increases resiliency, scalability, consolidated management and reporting functions.

The auto-detection of network settings and a configuration wizard help to simplify the installation, says O'Reilly, while content policy wizards simplify the creation and maintenance of policies. These reduce the installation and configuration time, reducing false positives and configuration errors, adds the company.

The application is integrated with global threat intelligence from Artemis and TrustSource technologies, real-time cloud-based systems that provide increased visibility to e-mail and Web threats, according to McAfee.

"In addition to its security effectiveness, this appliance also provides customers with e-mail and Web usage policy enforcement capabilities, compliance tools, informative dashboards and comprehensive reporting," concludes O'Reilly.
