McAfee pushes network access control

Johannesburg, 13 Mar 2006

McAfee has released details of its access control at a press conference n Johannesburg.

McAfee Network Access Control (NAC) allows businesses to restrict access to their networks by employees, preventing malware attacks, said Chris van Niekerk, regional director, McAfee SA.

The solution is backed by McAfee`s Enforcer, which will be available this month through McAfee`s channel partners.

Policy Enforcer scans managed and guest systems to verify they comply with security policies, and automatically blocks or quarantines non-compliant systems, said Mike Dalton, president of McAfee EMEA region.

The McAfee Policy Enforcer is managed by ePolicy Orchestrator, a separate module that runs McAfee System Protection Solutions from a centralised console, added Brian Kenyon, security analyst, for California-based Foundstone.

He said ePolicy Orchestrator makes risk management possible through five steps: policy definition, detection (identifying everything plugged into the network), an assessment of both managed and unmanaged systems, policy enforcement like partial, complete or quarantined access and either automated or manual remediation.
