Staffing solution company Kelly Group`s deputy CE, Mthunzi Mdwaba, has been appointed as a member of the International Labour Organisation`s (ILO) governing body.
He will represent businesses in the Southern African Development Community, as well as participating in formulating policies that influence the world of work.
Mdwaba is also CEO of IT training company Torque IT and VP of Business Unity SA (BUSA).
Mdwaba has been a member of SA`s business delegation for the last three conferences, leading BUSA at the ILO`s 98th Session of the International Labour Conference, held in June this year.
In his keynote address to the member states, employer and worker delegates, he praised the timely measures taken by the South African government to cushion the effects of the global recession on the local economy. He urged employers, workers and government to co-operate more closely in the attainment of the ILO`s decent work agenda.
Decent work consists of four strategic objectives: fundamental principles and rights at work and international labour standards; employment and income opportunities; social protection and social security; and social dialogue and tripartism.
Torque IT is an ICT training solutions provider to blue chip companies, the public sector and the youth in Africa. The listed Kelly Group acquired the ICT training company last August, for a maximum price of R37.85 million.
The company, which is 66% black-owned, is made up of three divisions: Torque Technical Training, Torque Career Campus and Torque Education Resources. The company has branches in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Nairobi (Kenya) and Angola (Luanda) and provides training in over 24 countries in Africa.
