ICT personality and empowerment advocate Mthunzi Mdwaba, who parted ways with listed recruitment company Kelly Group at the weekend, is taking his time before deciding what to do next.
Mdwaba was removed as Kelly's deputy CEO in August after the board was concerned judgements against him could damage the company's reputation. After private arbitration, the parties reached a settlement and Mdwaba has left the Kelly Group.
He joined the Kelly Group in October 2008 as deputy CEO after the staffing company bought training firm Torque IT for R38 million. Mdwaba was Torque IT CEO, but no longer holds this position as he is no longer employed by Kelly.
Mdwaba is not in a hurry to decide on a future career path as “time is on my side. I'm going to take a long break unless something comes my way.”
Although the ICT sector would be “a natural fit”, Mdwaba is also considering turning his property investing hobby into a career, or playing a more active role in advertising. He is the chairman of Y&R's South African operations.
Mdwaba will also continue with his other activities, such as his involvement with Business Unity SA and the International Labour Organisation, he says.
