Saturday, 26 June saw the Mecer Ducati team participate in the fifth round of the Leopard Rock.com Superbike Championships at Zwartkops Raceway.
Robert Portman qualified 18th on the starting grid and after a very good start quickly jumped eight places into tenth position. A serious accident resulted in the riders sitting behind the pace car for two laps, during which time Portman dropped two positions. He lost a further position during the final few laps to finally end his first race of the day in 13th position. Portman gained a position in the second race to finish 12th.
On Saturday, the two riders set out to have fun during the races and according to Lance Isaacs, "Bring it home safely for a change." Apart from passing each other a few times, the two chose not to make any daredevil moves, a strategy that saw Isaacs finish Saturday`s two races at Zwartkops in 14th and 16th respectively.
Hein Engelbrecht, financial director of Mustek, the holding company for Mecer, was at Zwartkops to support the team. "Watching the Superbikes in action is fantastic entertainment for the entire family. The entire event is really well-organised and I have had an awesome time today."
Isaacs, the more senior rider in the team, is currently at 14th position on the log with 19 points, with Portman leading him by three points to place in 12th position. To catch the Mecer Ducati team in action, be at the next Leopard Rock.com Superbike event on 31 July at Kyalami Racetrack.
